Indigo Blues

in·di·go

noun

  • 1.a tropical plant of the pea family, which was formerly widely cultivated as a source of dark blue dye.
  • 2.the dark blue dye obtained from the indigo plant.

Indigo blue is such a rich color. Did you know that the hue was once extracted from plants? These days, it's synthetically produced....several thousand tons each year to be exact. Many clothing companies use mordants made from metals like chromium and aluminum -- which are very damaging to exposed plants when factories release the water into the environment. With all the blue jeans we wear, it's a wonder every plant isn't blue. Recycle, repurpose or donate your denim when possible -- every little bit helps. FYI...this pictured dress is recycled :) Check out repurposed denim in our SHOP
